Work hard, play hard, but work smart!

Are you someone who has always known you wanted to do things differently?

I've always been a bit of a dreamer, or at least that's what they call people who question why we all do what we do. A philosophy professor in my first year of university said to "always ask these two questions in life: What if? and How do you know?" I've always loved that because it challenges the old way of thinking. The way we are socialized to do life. Go to school, get a good job, work hard for what seems like forever and then retire when you're old and play golf. Sounds awful to me. I want to golf before I'm 65! I've always thought there had to be a way.

Don't get me wrong, I love to work hard. I'm relentless in my pursuits when I need to be. I just didn't want to do it 40-60 hours a week, building a business for someone else.

So I went out and found something better. I encourage you to do the same. Look at all the options out there. Don't pre-judge things either just educate yourself, ask lots of questions and look at what a business or career change could do for your lifestyle in the long run.

When you're trying to do something that is different from most people around you, just know you can't take their advice on how to do it. It's not a bad thing, they just usually don't know what you're talking about. They've never thought about it, or have never done it. You need to go first with people who have done what you want to do.

Be different out there and if you don't love what you're doing right now, change it!

Best,

~Mara
